Jo & Andrew's Rehearsal Dinner
BEHIND THE LENS – KT MERRY
FEATURED in Martha Stewart Nov the 9th 2015,
One of our most treasured rewards from working with each of our couples is the strong connection we make with them. With Jo and Andrew, this bond was instant. Jo had reached out to us in Fall 2013, having seen our work and recognizing a kindred spirit in us and our work. From our first conversation, we knew that lady serendipity was showing her lovely head, and that together we would create something magical.
On a cold and blustery January morning Jo and Andrew made the trip to Ireland from their home in London. Having admired Ballyfin from afar, they knew on first sight that it was their dream venue. The intimacy, the Old World elegance yet unpretentious feel was like coming home. Together we spent an entire day getting to know them and all their nuances: from their treasured childhood memories; their first kiss; their wonderful life and adventures together; to their hopes and dreams for their wedding. We could see so clearly that so much of their reminiscing was about wonderful intimate meals they had shared together all over the world, and their love of the outdoors, and an adoration of nature created the canvas for their wedding. With an arsenal of adorable details that we garnered (like their mutual pet name of “Little Goose” for each other) we set about bringing their wedding to life, in exquisite and so many personal ways.
Jo and Andrew entrusted us with each part of the wedding knowing that we were weaving their story into each of the events of the wedding. We created a palette of ochre, rust, taupe, berries, and earth, with hints of plums and burgundy and autumnal tumbling green foliage. We used ivy as a bridging element – from the illustrative details on their stationery, nestled into the Welcome Baskets, cloaking the shoulders of bridesmaids, simple and adorable place names with names hand-lettered onto individual leaves, to the sumptuous masterpieces that Sara of Honey Of a Thousand Flowers and Hanna from Hanako created. With 3+ days of mini (and major) events each moment was a sensual feast, a tapestry woven of extraordinary florals, golden details, luminous silks and cosy woolens, delicious tastes and tipples, and flickering candle light. Elegance and grandeur balanced with simplicity and intimate moments.
In the aftermath we received a touching email from Jo and Andrew, which was the greatest gift that a designer can receive…
